Georgiana Houghton, Spirit Drawings

Georgiana Houghton was a Victorian medium who stated she drew her abstract watercolours with her hand guided by the spirits.  I found the most powerful aspect of the pieces was the atmosphere of depth.  The levels of the paint creating a busy layering of strokes and movement in the expression.  The feeling that what is being described is coming from another world is strong.  There seems to be a sense of music about the rhythm of the brush strokes and colours creating a correlation between music and the spirit world.  Could we suggest that the two are connected in some kind of secret portal?  A few months ago I created a graphic score to the most deliciously varied song and embellished on the score to begin creating something I hoped would have the movement and beauty of the rhythm of music.20160426_192700
